2018: Another Year; Another Post

Oh hey, another year….and a half has passed. Imagine that‽

Update on those 2017 resolutions:

  • Read a minimum of 1 book a month: Ummm yeah, I completely blew past that goal. I read 35 books in 2017 and am already on book 30 for 2018. Can you say, “Leisure reading is at an all-time high”‽ I am obsessed, in love, giddy about words. Why did I deprive myself for years‽ Silly me. Goodreads is my jam and 50 is my goal for the year. Fuck yeah.
  • Back to Fitness: Well, that went swimmingly for a bit. 25lbs lost…then regained. Dammit. But, I am committed and I’m no quitter. Career changes and gluttony got the best of me. It’s coming off again though. It’s uncomfortable. I’m tired. My body is protesting. This. Does. Not. Work. For. Me.
  • Be Regularly Involved in the Community: Slacking. I cannot tell a lie. Best intentions. All excuses. Too sporadic for my liking. Changing that. Signing up for something this week and am committing to 2 activities a month. Also, I have feelers out with a non-profit (two, actually), that I am wanting to get involved with. Stay the course, mama. yeah, that’s me talking to myself. (I do that… a lot.)
  • Simplify: YASSSS! I have been doing this – but there is still so much more to do. Garage: Still a shit show…. but….many other areas have been addressed. A work in progress. We are progressing. Forward motion. I’ll take it.

So, that’s the update on resolutions.

New Shiz:

Munkees: Amaze balls. Seriously, they are freaking amazing. Punky is going to be 17 (WTF?!) next month. Can I just say, “holy shit, that girl amazes me‽ ” She is so much more mature and together than I was at her age. She’s an awesome human being and I AM HER MOM!!! Lucky me. I am in constant awe of her. Srsly. Love her. So damn much. Boo: he’s still sweet as pie. Oh please, higher power, NEVER let him lose that. His heart is so big it baffles me. I love that boy. He’s one of the kindest souls I have ever met…and I made him. Wow. Mouse: Spitfire. Good lord, where did this little fireball come from‽ Smart as hell, snarky, and a force to be reckoned with. My kids are the BOMB.

Romeo: Still my rock. Still the love of my life.. Life is pretty damn amazing. He is my perfect partner and I am so grateful he is in my world.

I plan to write more. I say this every year and I really, truly hope I mean it this time. If not, well…see you next year! 😛

Our Summer vacation this year was a 10 day RV road trip through California, Oregon, & Washington. WOW. Yes. Do this. Photos are a few highlights from our trip.

Peace and chicken grease. Love and light to all who read this (myself especially).

2018 has been an incredible year and it’s only going to get better.

Greetings from Fabulous California!

Oh, hello. Yeah, I still blog. Sorta. Apparently, it’s an annual thing… I am quite confident I am the only one reading this anymore and I’m okay with that. This reminds me of a line in one of my favorite movies, Elizabethtown: “Welcome to the annual meeting of people who annually meet, and we’ll see ya’ll next year.” All of my Blogger friends became my Facebook friends, and they’ve all abandoned their blogs, too. Ghost Towns. So now, we simply stalk  follow each other on FB offering high fives and chest bumps when warranted.

Let’s revert our attention back to Fabulous California… specifically, the fantastic Saturday afternoon that Romeo and I had recently* (*recently meaning 4 months ago – when I started this draft).

We headed up to Healdsburg to spend an afternoon among the Dry Creek Valley grape vines, which was virgin territory for us (aside from a stop downtown for lunch while passing through last summer).

Wow. Just wow. If small batch, uncrowded tastings hosted by the proprietor/winemaker themselves are your preference, this. is. heaven. We visited 6 wineries on this trip.

TIP: Share tastings. You’re welcome.

Mounts  |  This vineyard is as agrarian as it gets. The tasting room is an open-aire garage and the rest rooms are {the cleanest I’ve even been in}  porta-potties. There are two resident pooches that greet you as you’re arriving and walk you to the car when you’re leaving. Delicious wine in a backyard setting.

Forchini  |  That’s “For-kee-nee” in case you weren’t sure. Walking in, it looked like your sweet, little ole grandma was pouring. What a firecracker she was; we laughed the entire tasting.

Frick   | What a cool spot and nectarous selection of wines. The proprietor then proceeded to refer us to our next two stops:

Talty    | Holy Grail of Zinfandel. This small producer specializes in single vineyard/estate grown wine. Yum.

Yoakim Bridge  | This place is magical. You pull up to a pair of Airsteams (presumably for overnight guests) and foliage with an intimate tasting room BEARing the California flag. 😉 This adorable couple met in culinary school in the city and decided that the chef life wasn’t for them. Course change to wine proprietors and the Mrs. makes a Cabernet BBQ sauce that has a cult following.

Seghesio | Oh Arneis, you “little rascal” indeed… hiding here at Seghesio! Here we discovered this ornery and difficult to cultivate little grape, that my palate savored (and I don’t *like* white wines…or do I?). I certainly LOVE this one.

Twenty Fifteen

What the what? It’s been two whole road trips around the sun since my last post here. Time flies when you’re living the hell out of life!

The itch to write has returned, even if only temporarily… I will embrace it.

What’s transpired in the past 788 days or so? Funny, you should ask…Where do I even begin? So, I now live in Northern California (heaven); I have crossed a few more items off my Manifesto (score!); I have a real CAREER and not just a J.O.B. (I’m a big kid now.); I practice Yoga daily (for the last 3 weeks thus far – bliss); I started playing Capoeira (challenging myself); this fall, Punky is starting HIGH SCHOOL (gah!) while Boo will be squarely in Middle School (double gah!), and Mouse will be wrapping up Elementary School (kill me now!); Romeo and I have been together 5 whole years! (squee!)

I am absolutely savoring my life. (Hella Yeah!)

This. song. makes. my. heart. smile.:

Happy Friday, all.

Happy.New.Year.

Bye-Bye Old Year; hello, New Year.

Image

Initially, I was hellbent on getting out of dodge for the holiday. I was dreaming of a cabin buried in the side of a mountain, crusted with snow. The more I thought about it though, the more I didn’t want to go anywhere after all. I enjoy my bed…immensely.

I decided to throw a party at home with just our family. Party bags containing hourly “events” like watching a movie, playing board games, making confetti poppers, pictures in the “photo booth” I’d set up in our living room, snacks, etc. occupied our evening until 2012 was history. At that point, it was all kid champagne, sparklers, pop-its, and smoke bombs…followed by excessive coughing.

It couldn’t have been a better evening.

My New Year’s resolution: to simplify.

I look around my home and can seriously purge 50% or more of its contents and would not miss it. Less is more. I look forward to having much less.

Cheers to 2013.

12 Days of Christmas

12 Days of Christmas

This year, my offering of gifts to my sweet Romeo came a little bit differently. Instead of waiting until Christmas Eve to open all of his presents at once, he received one a day for twelve days. The 12 Days of Christmas! I stumbled across something similar to this on Pinterest and figured I’d shake things up this year… Quite honestly, it was like Christmas morning for him (almost) every day (a few of the gifts arrived later in the afternoon/evening…) and he LOVED it!

I tried to relate each day to the gift. Some were clever, a couple, not so much:

On the first day of Christmas: sexy underwear. Oh yes, these are yummy…
On the second day of Christmas: 2lbs of his favorite coffee, Blue Bottle
On the third day of Christmas: 3 random things he enjoys. this one made me laugh…
On the fourth day of Christmas: four wine glasses
On the fifth day of Christmas: new comfy sleepy pants
On the sixth day of Christmas: six pack of beer – his choice
On the seventh day of Christmas: seven wild 7’s lottery scratch-offs
On the eighth day of Christmas: bottle of Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel (sentimental meaning)
On the ninth day of Christmas: box of truffles (pic didn’t turn out, so we had to buy another box! oops)
On the tenth day of Christmas: pair of new leather flops
On the eleventh day of Christmas: a hungry baker’s dozen of his favorite cookie
On the twelfth day of Christmas: twelve new running gear items

All in all, Christmas rocked this year. I’m a very happy girl. Happy holidays to all!

Completing a Thought

I have a box full of drafts.

My writing momentum is continually cut short by…the inability to commit a complete thought to “paper.”

This is proof to myself that I can actually still publish a post.

I’ve put into words that I’m struggling with this.

My brain is fried.

I need a vacation.

Thought. Complete.

Random Acts of Kindness

20120508-090138.jpg

Standing in the hair accessory aisle at Target, two young gentlemen walk up and hand us a $20 gift card for no reason at all. Apparently, they aren’t regular shoppers, they just didn’t need anything at the time, or were on a mission of generous intent. Whatever the reason, it was kind. It was random. It was appreciated.

I’ll definitely be paying it forward…
