Quadratic Functions & “Woah…You’re Packing Heat!”

x= -b±√b²-4ac/2a

Yes…Algebra. It’s not that it’s difficult per se, it’s more a question of: When will I use this in MY life? This question was resonating in my head ~ deafening as my professor feverishly scribbled the Square Root Method and Completing The Square functions on the blackboard. Chalk was swirling in the air and my eyes glazed over. I had to ask. During break, I walked alongside my professor and inquired “in what instance in REAL life, will I apply these formulas?”…she paused, smiled, looked me square in the eye and stated: “In Calculus 1-3 & Physics Classes.”

Yeah…that’s what I thought: Never.

After class, I had plans to meet up with The Linguist again. He thought the local bookstore would be ideal. He loves books. I love books. That works. I arrived first and made my way to the Photography section. I was thumbing through a miscellaneous Landscape publication when he crept up behind me. We said our hellos and I noticed how handsome he really is. He positioned beside me and it’s then I discovered the weapon affixed to his leg! (I’m talking a canvas strap, wrapped several times around the exterior of his jeans with an attached holster…) Taken aback and without any thought I say “Woah, is the gun really necessary?” To which he replied, “It’s not a gun , it’s a taser; don’t worry it’s not for you.” WTF? A taser? To the bookstore? For Serious? Now, I knew he was into guns and Star Wars and a million other things (this guy is fascinating to say the least), but this was a bit much. Perhaps living in this quiet “little town” (hell, all of Florida is essentially “quiet” in the Grande scheme of things) has part to do with it. He is, after all, from NY. An hour and a half, conversations on multiple writings, a Chai latte & chocolate chip cookie later, we make our way out to the parking lot and hug farewell. All in all, it was a pleasant date ~ we’ll hang again.

Still no kiss. (on purpose). This must be some sort of record for me….which is almost a little pathetic. Almost. Ha!

Funny How That Happens….

I just wrote about not having any definite plans to see NashVegas, and 5 minutes ago he called & informed me he’ll be here within the next three weeks….to…see….Me.

I’m convinced, men can “smell” any and all “competition”….

Feast or Famine.

Flood or Drought.

The story of my dating life…

Parker, NashVegas & The Linguist

≠ Parker ~ Parker has become somewhat relentless lately. Last night, he informs me that he wants to plan a trip to rendezvous in Las Vegas. I believe he senses I have been “talking” with other members of the male species in a [potentially] romantic capacity. I am not even going to “go there”… please…no lectures!

**Okay, Nashville Boy aka CS aka NashVegas is officially “NashVegas”…he used the term the other day and well…I cannot think of another more befitting.**

± NashVegas ~ Due to all the inclement weather and flooding, he had to jaunt back out to Seattle for a week to take care of family and property. He’s finally back home, all the while, still in contact with one another. We have yet to make any definite plans to see each other again. I’m not fretting…the reality: he lives 700 miles away and is a crazy busy boy.

¿ The Linguist ~ Here is the newbie on the scene. As much as I hate to admit it, I met The Linguist at a bar this past saturday night. (Ugh…yeah, I know….) It was a friend’s birthday , I dropped in for a quick brew and was making my exit, when he stopped me. We had an engaging conversation and in the end, I went home with him. NOT to SLEEP with him…geeez!.…(which I openly let him KNOW prior to. HA!) He lives a short drive from the smoky Tavern and a quieter environment was preferred. The Linguist is the Linguist because…well…he’s fluent in 8 languages! Eight! Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, German and of course, English. I’d be content to know two! He can not only speak these…but read and write them as well. WOW. BTW ~ He’s a high school [language] teacher, 3 years my junior and [less than 3 months) new to the area.

I’ve since hung out with him on one other occasion and plan to see him again. I have also told him that I “want to be friends before anything else”. (Which, to all my peeps, know this is NEW for me…in fact, I haven’t even KISSED him yet! Believe it ~ LeBlon, LJ & T!)

That’s the latest on the Manfront….

My Friend on Letterman

So an old high school friend of mine (k.s. Rhoads), a musician in Nashville, was just on Letterman the other night. He is the fella in the fedora on the piano & singing backup. He is currently touring with Erin McCarley, though he has his Own Stuff too.

Check it!

Two. Double Zero. Nine.

My actual New Year’s Eve was less than a night to remember. In fact, I’d like to forget it altogether. Ha! I have resolved to not spend another NYE working, and am planning a “do over” when a certain someone (CS) comes to visit. ::smiles:: Yes, CS had a NYE that was less than desirable as well… He was on the other side of the country and didn’t have “a stitch of fun at all.” [CS aka: NashVegas (final nickname still undecided)].

The New Year has much in store for Savored Life. For one, I am making like Rodney Dangerfield and going Back to School. It’s been 10 years since I have been in the classroom. Methinks I’ll be a little more focused this time around! Class starts next monday for me. Woohoo!

I attended a photography workshop yesterday afternoon that cleared up the haze surrounding Aperture (f-stops/DOF), ISO, Shutter Speed and how they each relate to one another. Now, I am dying to get a “real” camera and start experimenting….

This is also the last 6 months that Mouse is home with me during the day (on my days that is). Next fall she starts pre-K. I’m saddened yet excited all in the same breath.

I am ready for Punks and Bubs to get back to school…they are bouncing off the walls! Dr. D has already attempted to “try me”, but to no avail on his part. (God, his name is so befitting!)

Hello and Welcome 2009 ~

I am eagerly getting this year underway…

Much love and happiness to you all…out there in the Land of Blog! 😀
